Little Umbrian Cottage Details

Our Little Umbrian Cottage is perfect for two people - either for a couple or for friends holidaying together. It was renovated a few years ago and retains lots of character but has modern comforts too. It is warm in winter and cool in summer, despite being south facing... The shutters are effective against the summer sun, the fly screens protect from mosquitoes and the central heating and double glazing make it cosy in winter. There are wonderful old beams downstairs, and traditional terracotta floor tiles and stone window-sills throughout. The kitchen is typical of the region with brick supports and wooden doors. It is located in a small, typical hamlet less than 10 minutes drive from Castiglione del Lago, and about 2 minutes drive from the large village of Pozzuolo, where you can find a supermarket, a couple of bars and a pizzeria (which also does take-aways).

The kitchen is south facing and always light and bright...

Main bedroom: A large room with high ceilings and a little en-suite toilet/basin. There is a large Italian double bed - it's about the same size as a UK king size bed. There is a triple wardrobe, bedside tables/lamps and chest of drawers. It's lovely to sleep with the window open and the fly-screen down, and wake up to hear the chattering of my Italian neighbours...

Second bedroom: This room has a small double bed, bedside tables and built in wardrobe with chest of drawers. There's also a large desk/table - if you are creative or just like to reflect and write a travel journal, it's a perfect place to sit... My sewing machine is there, under the table, and you're welcome to use it. This was how I would spend my holidays in Umbria... Sightseeing and being creative!

Shower-room: The shower room is modern with tiled walls and the suite consists of wc and bidet, shower cubicle and basin.

Outside: We have spent many an afternoon or evening sitting outside our little cottage, sipping a glass of wine, chatting and reading... There is a fold-up table and chairs if you want to eat outdoors - set them up at the back or front depending on whether you want to be in the sun or the shade... There are two wooden chairs at the front (and a little fold-up wooden table to take out when you want to) where you can sit and enjoy the summer mornings or evenings...

Internet: There is a small "mifi" unit set up in the bedroom. If you want to use the Internet, you can easily and cheaply buy an Italian SIM card from the mobile phone shop in Castiglione del Lago. You simply open the unit, insert the SIM card and browse... The unit supports up to 5 devices and we have found it to be fast and reliable. However... Some holidays, we still prefer NOT to have Internet access! It's wonderful to be away from emails and from distraction, and to really enjoy BEING there. (The lovely cafe opposite the train station in Castiglione del Lago has free internet access, as do many bars in the region.)

Parking: Just park your car in front of the house - it faces a little "square" and so it's perfectly safe.

Pets: Unfortunately, we do not accept pets at our Italian house - sincere apologies.
